Dear Sir,
I received your [undecipherable] respecting Capt [undecipherable] of the 5th [undecipherable]. I find I have settled with Luke Broadhead, and he is now out of my power unless some accident and [undecipherable] Ill do what I can for you. I give you this information that you may take steps to recover from [him?] nothing but a vast [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] would apologize for not answering your letters alluded to. November 15th 1788
Dear Sir —
In answer to yours of the 8th Inst. I have the honor to inform you that Capt Luke Broadhead [undecipherable] had been settled before the receipt thereof and I had no opportunity of [undecipherable] the 40 Dollars nor do I think I ever shall. I believe he sold his depreciation. If [undecipherable] can be done I will attend thereto and inform you of it —
Yours Respectfully
J. Nicholson
Joseph Howell Esqr.
Mr Commy. A. Acct.
