Your Letter of the 13^th together with one from General Gist has been received by me. and an Attention paid to their Contents. you were mistaken in Entering the Charge against the General of 378 dollars as received of M^r [undecipherable: Heckley] - it was paid him by me on the 22. of October 1783 entered in M^r Rod's Acct. again as Inclosed you and which for distinction sake I have numbered N^o 1. there is however an [undecipherable] difficulty in his and Gate Accts which you & M^r Hamilton may Perhaps be able to remove. for this Purpose I have also Inclosed you Copies of all the Settlements made by these Gentlemen with your [undecipherable] N^o 2. Gist Account as on file. N^o 3. 374 Gates Account as on file. N^o 5. Gist Account [undecipherable] as Entered in your books N^o 6. Gates [undecipherable] of the [undecipherable] Charge against Gate as Entered in my Books N^o 8. a rough Statement of their Accounts of Specie accounts for made out by me as far as my information extends. the difficulties which this last number [undecipherable] are first. that Gate credits more than he is charged by one hundred dollars, which I suppose is a [undecipherable: Part] of the Sum Charged to Gist. Secondly that Gist credits in Monies Notes 625 dollars whereas I charge him only 525. this difference I am unable to Account for. Thirdly that the General credits sundry sums of money received from General Greene amounting to 318. 30 [undecipherable] whereas we charge him only 448 [undecipherable] Dollars. we have therefore made the Charge too little on he Credits too much and I am unable to explain this difficulty.
