New York October 28, 1786 Dear Sir Your letter of the 8^th together with one from General Gist have been received by me, and are all allow'd to their contents - You were mistaken in entering the charges against the fund of 378 Dols as received of M^r Stokely - it was sent here by me on the 13^th of October and is entered in M^r Reed's account against a sundry account [undecipherable] for the ten claims unless I have been told. There is however an inexplicable difficulty in the said Gales accounts, which you and M^r [undecipherable] may perhaps be able to remove - for that purpose I have also enclosed you copies of all the settlements made by them with you, being N^o 2 Gales account as on file, N^o 4 Gales account as on file - N^o 5 this account as entered in your Books N^o 4 - Gales title - and N^o 4 this [undecipherable] against Gale as entered in my Books & N^o 6 may be a bit current if these [undecipherable] made out by us as for any information I had - [undecipherable] which the last mention will point out and, first that Gale [undecipherable], more than he is charged by, and [undecipherable] Dols which I supposed is as part of the [undecipherable] credited a hundred, certainly that but it would seem only 578 Dols - the differences I am unable to account for. Secondly that [undecipherable] credits [undecipherable] sums of money received from [undecipherable] amounting to the [5180/80?] Dols whereas we charge him with only 448⁶⁰ Dols, and have therefore made the charges too little or between credits too much, and I am unable to explain the difficulty.
