Possibility of Indian War, Promotions, and Goods in Shipment

100%

H Knox October 22nd 1786 Colonel Jeremiah Wadsworth at New Haven H Knox My dear Wadsworth You will see by the acts of Congress of the 20th instant, which are transmitted to Governor Huntington by this post, the high probability of an indian War. As a lieutenant Colonel Command is apportioned on Connecticut, I hope you & your friends, (if it can be done without injury to any other officer of superior rank, who may be desirous of entering the service) will endevor to have poor Wyllis appointed to it. I know not how this might operate in case of further additions to the troops now ordered to be raised, and therefore would not urge the measure to the injury of the service but as Major Wyllis hopes in my opinion must rest on a military life, and as he is an excellent officer I wish that he may be promoted whenever it can be done with propriety. I have not forgott the Philadelphia arrangement. I shall expect to be there. there in the course of this week, and if the goods you wished from thence are of the proper kind, they shall be sent to you at Hartford. I am my dear Sir With perfect affection and esteem Your sincere friend and humble servant H Knox Col0 J. Wadsworth
