Dear Sir
Inclosed is a copy of Lt George Winchester's account as settled by you, it is sent in order to rectify a mistake that has been made by crediting the United States with the sum of 55 34/90 dollars as the specie Value of 130 dollars New Emission which sum of 130 dollars was received in Specie or the value of it in New Emission. The difference 85 56/90 Dollars is still due the United States, perhaps it may be in your power to recall from this Gentleman one of his Deputies and have this matter adjusted to enable us to balance his account in our books —
You have also advanced the sum of 80 dollars as due him for pay of 1782 this sum has been received by him from Mr Bradford [undecipherable] Prisoners which may be necessary to inform him of as he may still apprehend he is entitled to receive it — I have enclosed you an Ordinance of Congress which annihilates your department — this information is given to enable you to make early interest for the agency of Maryland and hope you may meet some good friends whose influence may recommend you
