Dear Sir In answer to your letter of the [undecipherable] I am to truly advise you that the Board of Treasury approves [undecipherable] as its opinion agree[undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] your claim, for & [undecipherable] in consequence of your and their [undecipherable] directions taking the oath [undecipherable] that therefore you will stand [undecipherable] you as & go as not to [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] no chance of obtaining any [undecipherable] and in respect to the [undecipherable] difficulty of obtaining that will be greater, I am therefore of opinion that the whole had better be not deferred until your arrival here, which I know may be this fall — Congress as I was disposed not only decrease the Salaries of the Commissioners, but also to annihilate their appointments, which I believe will soon take place. you need not therefore build too sanguine hopes of the success of the application you meditate.
