Dear Sir
I thank you for the Communications in your Letter of the 30 Ulto. The Inclosed report of a Committee of Congress respecting the Artificers was passed in Congress and referred to me to take order on, and will shew you the principles on which the refusal of this grant are founded. I inclose also a Copy of the Act respecting the Agents and sorry Certificate of Cap DeBerdt claim which I shall lodge with M. Milligan

Mrs Stevenson has made application for the pay & Commutation due her Late husband Mr William Stevenson of the Virginia Artillery. on Searching of the records of the War Office [undecipherable] taken prisoner on the 9 May 1781. and exchanged on the 26 Novr 1782. as this Gentleman is not on any return of the regiment of Artillery transmitted to this Office I wish to be informed of you if you have any Knowledge of his Services or if he Continued during the War. resigned or retired from the Service —
