Thompson, Executrix to the Estate of the late Brig. Gen. Thompson, beg leave to report, That the Petitioner's demand for a ration of the deceased from [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] day of June [undecipherable], the time of his being made as [undecipherable] [undecipherable] who had [undecipherable], as attended [undecipherable] [undecipherable: redaction or damage across several lines] of the Inspector General's Office of the Army, not being confined to one station only, as was the case with the regimental Officers, [being] drawn from the different Commiss[aries] as [undecipherable] such [undecipherable] of provision as occasion, as they found necessary for the supply of their respective Tables. That the Pay if any of [undecipherable] [undecipherable] was [undecipherable] any regular account of their death upon the Commissioners, and that the accounts of that old department [as will appear by a Resolve filed to your Commissioners accompanying this report] now in [undecipherable] in relation that they can not furnish a [undecipherable] completed account into [undecipherable] in any [undecipherable] be relied on — matter in the case of Gen^l Thompson, as there is no account of [undecipherable] by which the quantity drawn [undecipherable] be determined. Your Commission[ers] [undecipherable] regard[ed] for the account at M^r. [undecipherable] — and finds [undecipherable] that Gen^l. [undecipherable] from September 1779 the amount of which is obtained, but whether his claims [undecipherable] before that time [undecipherable] is unknown, as will [undecipherable] whether the other [undecipherable] from any other Commissary. And [undecipherable] it is probable he did not, as [undecipherable] for the rest of the time a prisoner or parole, and [undecipherable] and that [undecipherable]. Your Commissioners further beg leave to report on the former [undecipherable], which is for the [undecipherable] rations, that his [undecipherable] and finding the [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] of each said [undecipherable], but [undecipherable] ones that follow [undecipherable] cases smaller, [undecipherable] there ever been considered, as within the [undecipherable] or greater [undecipherable] the departments, and the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] the officers, [undecipherable] [undecipherable: redaction or damage across several lines] [undecipherable] upon Commissioners of the [undecipherable] or grant[ing] of a ration of forage is allowed for that department, or to better the reception of the resolve of [undecipherable] confining the allowance to Officers in Camps, and [undecipherable] or public service, have [undecipherable] to calculate the provisions. Your Commissioners further beg leave to report that the Gen^l. stands charged in the public books with the following sums, Viz: 1779 July 29, for use of his regiment — $700 [undecipherable] October — pay of his regimental [undecipherable] $471[undecipherable] [undecipherable] ditto — ditto for [undecipherable] — $4501[undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] — for [undecipherable] — $3866[undecipherable] D^r. 13,579[undecipherable] It is stated no partial account of [undecipherable] payment was transferred by his executor, but as the pay of his regiment has not been [undecipherable] prior to August 1, 1778, and as the Gen^l. has made advances for the recruiting and [undecipherable] equipment of the same it is clear to your Commission[ers] that [undecipherable] must manifestly [have] advanced at least to the amount of the $700 [undecipherable] charged against him. The two following [undecipherable] in question, and the last is considerably different, for the money was received on account $4760[undecipherable], and for which [undecipherable] some payment at the time [undecipherable] it is [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] as soon as received — [undecipherable] That [undecipherable] also be justified from the General's character, and that the sum thus already advanced in his estate is [undecipherable] it was not paid. The Petitioner has also produced an account collected from sundry memorandums and papers found since the General's decease.
