New York September 14 1786 S^r As to the particular [undecipherable: probable reading "Stating"] of your Brother Acco[unt] is either Mislaid or with M^r Wereat in Georgia, I am unable to give him that Satisfaction which I otherways could and which my wishes lead me to. I shall however take up the principles of it & State them as accurately as possible; in general I can say that his Account was reduced to the same rule of allowances with the others of the Line, and the Charges in it admitted upon the same principles. his Charge of Pay for himself as Surgeon to a regiment was wholly admitted. his Charge of rations was also admitted, from which was deducted one p^r day as received for a reason that a resolution of Congress has directed, that if this ration was not drawn it should not be Charged, and that as there was no check to the Accounts of the line, I conceived I should not be Justified in passing the whole rations with- out such a deduction. the officers in general must have received a ration at least while in Camp. & when out of Camp or furlough, it is doubted wither that allowance was intended to be made them. the State allowed three rations at a quarter of a dollar, but I only allowed for a part of the [undecipherable] a part at 9[undecipherable] and a part [undecipherable] agreeable to the resolves of Congress which makes a very Considerable alteration in your Account; the pay & Rations of the Servants of the Officers I only admitted from the time Congress
