Sir
Lieut Weidman late of the German Regt and a prisoner, has made application to this office for his Commutation — and upon examination into the Act of the Regt I find that On the [7]th day of [undecipherable] his certificates were issued to Henry Shrupp of Philadelphia — by virtue of a certificate from Jno Miller, [undecipherable] — [strikethrough: hitting] a copy of which I have enclosed to you — Weidman, denies ever having given a power of attorney to S: Shrupp — I have therefore to request you will please to Call on Mr Miller and procure the Original Power which [is supposed to be] filed in his Office, and transmit the same to [undecipherable]
Me as soon as possible, that we may be able to determine whether the authority was Legal upon Which Shrupp Recd the [said] Weidmans [Commutation] and that if any fraud has taken place, Weidman may be enabled to [strikethrough: ——] prosecute Shrupp who has Acknowledged that he drew the[ir] certificates
