August 18^th 1786 Sir In Settlement of an account between the United States and Luke Broadhead Captain in the late C^o Pennsylvania Reg^t there appears a balance due by the said Cap^t Broadhead in the sum of ad ten ⁷⁶/₁₀₀ dollars specie — This sum you will please to charge to his account of depreciation as a deranged Officer in 1779 and transmit M^r Sires a Certificate of the same, that his account may be closed in the books of this Office — In which you will oblige Your Humb^le servant J Howell Jr John Nicolson Esq^r New York August 22^d 1786 Sir — Your letter covering the Vouchers for money received for Rations for the 5^th Reg^t was duly received and has enabled me to make a final settlement of your account — Inclosed you will receive a Warrant for the final balance of your account N^o 9421 on the State of New York this day for two hundred and eighty five ⁷⁵/₁₀₀ dollars bearing Interest from the 2^d of March 1783 and countersigned by me agreeably to your desire I have sent this under cover to Major John Harper who I make no doubt will forward it to you from Yt Cap^t Job Vernon J Howell Jr I certify that I have this day seen the above mentioned
