Office of Army Accounts
N York Aug. 7th 1786.
Sir,
Not knowing until yesterday where to direct to you has prevented me from answering your several letters sooner — I have now enclosed you an account of the monies which are charged you in the books of this Office for which it will be necessary to produce sufficient vouchers for the expenditure before you can be exonerated —
The monies you have received from Major Einnion Williams appears to me to have been for recruiting your Company in the State Regiments — If this should be the case I am of opinion the accounts should be settled by Mr Nicholson, who I suppose has the returns of that regiment previous to its being incorporated with the line — You had therefore best inform yourself of Mr Nicholson previous to a settlement at this Office — I wish you to bring every paper that will give information to form a settlement.
Yours &
Joseph Howell jr
