Gentlemen Exeter N. Hampshire July 31st 1786
I left Boston on friday last and reached this place on Saturday, on Consulting the Authority here, I was advised to remain as Secret as possible and procure further evidence than that of Judge Sullivan before I arrested Morrill for his Character as an Honest man being undisputed and his being a Selectman and a Man of some Consequence in the Town it was thought that some other concerning Circumstances might further to be produced on which I sent for a Capt Fogg who assisted him not only in the Settlement of the Accounts of the New Hampshire Line in my Office but also in delivering the Certificates to the Officers Soldiers. him I found to have heard of Morrill being suspected in Boston and he informed that M. had proposed to him while at my Office the taking of some of my Blank Paper, as he said in hope of future Service, That on Fogg expressing his disapprobation of the Measure, Morrill
