88 Gentlemen Boston July 26th 1786 I did myself the honor to write very harshly to the board yesterday and inform them that I proposed to go to Portsmouth to day. but having taken up Simeon Turner for passing the Certificates he bought of Barnes Knowing them to be Counterfeit and Court being held upon him I was not ready soon enough for the stage and am therefore Obliged to wait until Fryday. I hope this will have no ill Effect as I have Carefully concealed that I have Suspisions of any persons not in Town & my exertions to get here has thrown me into a Slight fever, which made it necessary to indulge a day for repose, Turner being Acquitted I have taken his– deposition which I inclose together with that of Tudor (with the Note), with who it Stopped. from every information I am induced strongly to believe that these counterfeits came from the way of New Hampshire. July 27th. The first day I did not appear in Town. I sent after Phelon immediately - his Land lady said that he was gone to Providence or Rhode Island and perhaps might go to New York. I then sent [undecipherable] to Rhode Island who has returned without any intelligence of him: as he may have gone to NYork I sent the depositions inclosed by the last post that a warrant may be Issued to Apprehend him if he should be heard of - but my opinion is that he has had some information from N. York which has caused him either to secret himself or to go to his Comrades in N. Hampshire & will not be found – I have the Honor to be– &c
