Rec.^d July 29] Dear Sir, Let me present to you a charge against The United States. the [undecipherable] of my exhibiting it to you at pres[undecipherable] [undecipherable] to avoid The act of expulsion. If The dates are [undecipherable], you will be kind enough to rectify [them], which you will [be] able to do by your [undecipherable] Let me beg The favors of your [undecipherable], far as your discretionary limits [undecipherable], to befriend me in The affair. I am therefore totally ignorant of The Subject. I Should long Since have acted in The matter, but Saw not The least opening to hope for Success. Nor have I more reason to hope it in The present Instance. The Attempt is made merely to open The way for future attempts Should this prove abortive. It is not a little hard to See half pay officers, who did less duty than myself, in a much more agreable Season of Service, compensated with an allowance of depreciation, & [undecipherable] on, & to be allowed nothing.
