New York July 25th 1786.
Sir,
Your favor of the 19th instant was received Yesterday, and agreeably to your request have made inquiry of the Commissr for the Mr Cantd Commissaries department (Mr Brenall) what was necessary to be done — he informs me that your accounts come properly under his notice; that he has the charges of Carpenter Wharton against his deputies, and expects those against you are with him — the time limited for the accounts does not in the least apply to Mr Brenalls department. You can therefore settle your accounts when your Business will most conveniently admit; tho it will be necessary that you attend here for the purpose; and my advice is if the object is worthy your attention that you will do it as soon as may be —
Yours
J. Howell
