Sir, As a part of my accounts with the U States remain unsettled, owing to a charge made against me by Colonel Francis Johnston (which I make no doubt you recollect) of 1200 dollars received from him, a part of which by his directions I paid to the Officers and Soldiers as pay from 15 March to June 1777 and the ballance I returned to him — Wherefore I thought that account totally settled, until informed by you to the contrary — On the settlement of my account as Representee By Mor I left most of the vouchers for expenditures of the above sum, with my others in the hands of yourself and James Johnston Esqr the then Auditors —
