This day came before me Joseph Savage of said County and made Oath on Holy Evangelist of Almighty God. That he this Josiah Savage Joined the Army of the United States in the capacity of [undecipherable] in which character he continued till the Resignation of Doctor Roberts at Richmond Proposed. has been and animated from the first day February [undecipherable] The said Resignation of Doctor Robert which was the first day of March 1790. & then made Application for the Same. to Genl Bedford who told him to consider him off as full Surgeon. but the Appointment never Originated from the Surgeon General of the. Army tho being an establishment, till the conclusion of War it has never been in my power to get it Ratified. Given under my hand this eight day July. 1796.
