[May 31^st 1786] [To the Rev^d M^r A Boyd] [Copied] New Bo. 2 May 31 1786 Sir M^r Jefferson to whom you addressed your letter of the 26 of March having been absent in Georgia, I took the liberty to open it, and in answer to which beg to inform you, that your old land accounts are settled. The [undecipherable] for arrears due to the Army now sell for about [undecipherable] in the [undecipherable] — and that the [strikethrough: army of applicants have named it] danger of establishing a ground [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] for payments or loan on their certificates will prevent, [strikethrough: most probably] any ones, that you [strikethrough: can meet with] won't otherwise meet with, on an application to be in gross for that purpose — there being so many persons, who are equally intitled, that it is impossible to extend justice to the [undecipherable] even a part, without partiality.
