James [Milligan] Esq^r JP The pay of a Judge Advocate for the [Army] in the Massachusetts Bay was fixed by Congress [June?] [18?] and [undecipherable] Sep^t 1774 at 50 Dollars P Month, on the 28^th of October 1776 the rations [of] a Judge Advocate was determine[d] to be six P Day. On the 6^th of June 1777 it was ordained that the Judge Advocate at [undecipherable] have the [undecipherable] pay and Rations of a Cap^t and March 27, 1778 the Judge Advocate General was allowed 75 [Dol] monthly and his [junior] rations. On December 28 [undecipherable] 1779 it is [undecipherable] resolved that the subsistence of a Judge Advocate be [that] of Colonel, and the Deputy that of a [Lieutenant] Colonel. November 10 1780 the Judge Advocates salary was stated to be [3] Months from his appointment to March 27 1778, from [there] to 1^st August 1780 and after August 1780 his pay to be 140 Dollars monthly and two Rations P Day, his Deputy to have 15 [undecipherable] Dol[lars] in addition to his pay in the Line. September 27 1781 [it is a] recommendation to the States to [settle] the depreciation of the pay.
