April 1786 Sir The board of Treasury being about to issue the Warrant for your pay for attending the Agent of the late Invalids Regiment, I have made application to them to suspend it untill you are able to give satisfaction respecting the said money that you told me had never signed the order in your favor for their Certificates the you have drawn the same from me on this supposition — you are requested therefore to come to the Board as soon as possible, and give them your account of this transaction — JP M^r Talmadge Hall Army Accounts Office April 28 1786 Gentlemen I do myself the honor to inclose the representation of Cap^t Dennis Bucknell for his services as Agent to the Corps of Sappers & Miners, and of Cap^t DeBard as Agent to Armand's Corps — the former of these Gentlemen settled the Accounts of about 100 Officers and Men and received from me on the 20 of March 1784. 370 Certificates amounting to $2304 Dollars being for all the arrears due the Corps from the year 1780. he accounted for his issues on the 28 January 1785 and delivered up his remaining certificates into my hands — he has drawn his pay from me as a Captain up to the 3^d of November 1783 and his subsistence to the 8^th of April 1784. — M^r DeBard settled the Accounts of about 400 Officers & Men he received from me on the 16^th of November 1783 & 5^th March 1784. 362 Certificates amounting to 130,325 ¾ Dollars being the pay of the Regiment for 1782 & 1783 and the Gratuity & Commutation. he settled his accounts of Issues on the 5 June 1784 and has delivered to me the certificates which remained in his hands. he received pay from me as Captain to 15 Novem^r 1783 — subsistence for the same rank to 8 May 1784 — he has attended solely to this business untill the close of his accounts and was particularly industrious in forwarding his [undecipherable] — JP The Hon^ble The Board of Treasury New York 21^st April 1786 Dear Sir I inclose a copy of my letter to you of the 17^th Ult^o also of my letter of the same date to M^r Pendergast and his answer dated the 5^th Instant — the whole of which relates to your accounts in the Treasury, and the latter shows, that M^r Pendergast will not acknowledge the receipt of the $5,400 Dollars for which you have not procured his receipt. You will see by my letter that [undecipherable] who intended to have shown the mistake [undecipherable], and therefore as his accounts agree with his receipts to you, I am of opinion that you will find on examination that he ought not to be charged with this sum — JP Joseph Clay Esq^re
