[Docket: To Capt [undecipherable] dated Apr 19, 1786. [signature] 2 bound [undecipherable]cm—]
New York Aprl 19th 1786.
Sir
I have examined your accounts and paid very attention to your claims that your situation as a foreigner and an officer who has left his all for the service of this country requires — I have paid you your pay — your demand for the transportation of your company, and your charges for the recruiting of it in 1777 —
The sum of 14796 livres yet stands charged against you — opposed to which you have presented the account of your Company in 1786 mustered in Canada — certified by [undecipherable] Mazen and attested by yourself — this account had Mazen inform me was settled before here and you on August 1786 and that you then gave from your receipts for this sum being the supposed amount of your advances, to the present amounts now presented by you amounts to more of advances made in Canada to this Company amount to more than: I did not have your settled with the [undecipherable] — and I have not in my possession the other accounts of the same time
belonging which must be produced by the other Officers and which would divest the property of admitting them to your credits by comparing the whole together. I have proceeded as far therefore as I can at present, without acknowledgements from the men of the monies you have paid them & have postponed [undecipherable] for the [undecipherable] the admission of it for the present
