Sir: Your several Letters with their enclosures have been received — The Certificate returned from your for accounts unsettled is ready to be delivered to you on your order — As the expence attending a personal application would be as much as the Certificate is worth, you may draw an order on John Pierce Esq^r. Payable in my favor, and on my obtaining the Certificate will send it to you as soon as a good conveyance will offer, or deliver it to whom you may please to direct — Any letters to me of a public nature you will please to put under cover to McPhew. Sir — Your favor of the 28 Inst^t was handed me this day by McElhone — in answer thereto I must inform you that it is not in my power to assist you in the settlement of your accounts with M^r Nicholson until yours for commanding your Company of the late 12^th Regiment is close with the U States — Colonel book is charged with large sums of money for necessarys, part of which I make no doubt has been advanced by him to his Officers to raise their Companies, and as I expect you are of the number who have received of him, it will be absolutely necessary for you to attend at this Office for a Settlement. This being done a Certificate will be given you To M^r Nicholson who will then settle with you — Cap^t. Buite Brodlaus is in the same Situation, he is charged with 190 dollars by Colonel Broduer for the necessarys Service — this must he accounted for previous to a settlement with the State — I am Sir, &c — J.
