New York 17 March 1786.
Dear Sir,
As soon as the Evening of St. Office would permit, I examined into the claims of [undecipherable: Lieut.] Jack Weaver, and have inclosed you a rough sketch of his accounts which will enable Mr Taylor to procure the depreciation — you will observe on this Statement that there is a Ballance due the Estate of two hundred & thirty four 2/6 Dollars, for which a Certificate will spell as soon as Mr Taylor will forward an order for that purpose.
If an opportunity should not offer by some friend of his from Philadelphia, Mr Taylor may give one in my favor directed to John Pierce Esquire and I will forward the Certificate by Post or otherwise as you or he may direct — a power of Attorney acknowleded before a Magistrate I would recommend —
In this account I have taken the nominal pay from the first of September 1777. this is done in consequence of an agreement between Mr Nicholson & myself when I settled the account of Prisoners in Phila but as I think the duties of Weaver would be more respected by a State Certificate than one from this Office I would wish you to mention it to Mr Nicholson and endeavour to obtain the depreciation from the 1 Sept. 1777. which if done there will still remain a small ballance due the Estate — Mr Nicholson's certificate from the time of settlement will be necessary to accompany the power — yours &c
