Collection from a Speculator

100%

Colo: Pickering or Major Hodgdon to whom I send this open for their perusal, will much oblige me by forwarding it to Mr. Roberts as I do not know where to direct it to; - If they will direct a copy of it to be kept in their office they will oblige me —-I must acknowledge that Martin Roberts has some excuse in regard to his not paying Mr. Armstrong’s demand at the time he received it from me, instead of money, Mr. Morris’s notes payable in six months (I think it was 6 months) there I know he repeatedly tendered to Armstrong, which he refused over x over and over again to accept altho’ every body else took them - and I know that Roberts tried in vain to get the money for the notes this induced him to speculate upon them in trade instead of returning that sum to me or to Mr. Hodgdons==== (Signed) Geo: Morgan I believe Martin Roberts lives at Duck Creek - he may however be heard of by sending to the sign of the Ewe & Lamb om front Street above Vine Street - Pray excuse this trouble.
