[undecipherable] [To the Secretary at War January 10. 1786 Copied] New York January 10^th 1786 Sir I do myself the honor to inclose you the most correct history [of] the officers of the line of Virginia during the two last years of the war, and have noted as correctly as possible, the instances on which they found their [undecipherable] [undecipherable] — I have endeavored [undecipherable] into four divisions — 1^st Those that were arranged and continued [in] Consequence of such arrangement in [undecipherable] to the end of the war, whose claims amount to [undecipherable] thousand [undecipherable] hundred and [undecipherable] dollars, 2^nd Those that were deranged and whose pay then ceased, whose claims amount to one thousand [seven] hundred and thirty [undecipherable] dollars — 3^rd Those that were deranged and were paid afterwards for reasons [undecipherable] against their names, whose claims amount to seven thousand, three hundred and eighty two dollars — and 4^th Those that were [undecipherable], but [undecipherable] to pay as others [undecipherable] [undecipherable], whose claims amount to one hundred and thirty three [undecipherable] dollars — Amounting in the whole to Thirteen Thousand, [undecipherable] hundred and [undecipherable] dollars — It likewise appears that through the [undecipherable] mode of payment for those two years, there has been 2613 [undecipherable] dollars too much paid to sundry officers of the line, and I have been careful to note against the names of their persons the respective sums which they have overdrawn. — In the amount of the claims now found, it is to be under[stood] that the arrears of Subsistance is not included.
