Your favor of the 23d did not reach me untill the 25. agreeably to your desire I written to Mr Denning the Commissioner appointed to settle the Quartier Master Generals Department who informs me that it is necessary you should produce a prior appointment, and in your power, a certificate from the principal in Office at the time of money had been paid you for that, or any other purpose: these being procured, he apprehended your account may be closed — Mr Denning further observes that a Certificate may be necessary, specifying the time of your continuance in service.
