Sir. New York December 3d 1785.
I have herewith enclosed you a Muster Roll of Captain Shotts Corps which is the latest I can find in the office — 1784.
John Nicholson Esqr Jos Howell Jr
Dear Sir. Philadelphia December 5th 85.
I have lately seen a resolution of Congress published in the papers, whereby I may now get my account settled, that I have often mentioned to you. I wish to take it as a great favor if you will inform me whether I must go to New York, or if I should send the account, you could possibly get it settled for me, plan to write by the first post your opinion — I have Quit partnership with Mr Wood and it would be inconvenient for me to go to New York — if I could possibly get my business adjusted without the Journey.
Js Howell Jr Esqr Your Friend Wm Williams
Dear Sir. N. York December 7th 1785.
Your favor of the 26th ulto reached me on monday last and accordingly your request waited on Mr Pinkney and delivered him a copy of your letter to Mr Head, which Mr Pinkney informed me would be Sufficient, to lay before Congress, and which he proposed doing as soon as there was a morning, at present than an has been, later — as the the business of the office does not require your presence, I thought it best to wait on the Treasury Board, and inform them your desire of Continuing your time longer, they will not to prevent you from finishing your business, but request that as soon as it is completed, you will return —
