Joseph Howell Esqre —
Litchfield November 8th 1785
Dear Sir, I yesterday received your favor of the 23 — I enclose Mr White's letter that it may be answered — I wrote you some days since informing of my arrival — since which I have scarcely been out of my Chamber, having all the affairs of my fathers estate to arrange, and to put into posture for settlement — I desired you to wait on the Commissioners of the Treasury, do be informed if any thing occurs which will make my presence necessary; You will yourself know if I am wanted in the office; and wish to be informed when it will be necessary for me to return — as I shall stay here as long as I can — or until the beginning of January — please to present my Compliments to the Gentlemen of the office.
I am Dear Sir Sincerely your friend
