It is me earnest desire that he should begin his march by the 10th instant but as he has no officer with him and you having given me some hopes that you may be able to add at least one more to him, you will delay his march a few days for that purpose should you find it essentially necessary. If however you should not be able to give him another officer from the quota of this state, I have authorized Major North the inspector to add an officer from the quota of Connecticut and as many men from that state as shall be requisite to complete the company Mr. Duer will supply captain Hamtramck with provisions on his route from West Point to Fort Pitt; he will also furnish four two horse waggons for the transportation of his baggage if a full company should march. if not means in proportion in addition to which Mr. Duer will enable his agent who shall accompany captain Hamtramck to pay the contingencies which shall necessarily arise on the route such as ferriages fuel & Straw The route of this company will be from West Point to New Windsor from thence by Sussex court house to Easton on the Delaware - Reading - from thence through Lebanon to Harristerry Carlisle Shippensburgh the old forts Loudoun Bedford & Ligonier You will instruct captain Hamtramck to observe the most perfect discipline on his march If Lieutenant colonel Harmar should have returned to Philadelphia he will probably have left particular orders for captain Hamtramck at Fort Pitt or Fort McIntosh which must be obeyed: but if this should not be the case and there should not be any officer superior to captain Hamtramck at Fort Pitt or Fort McIntosh or such other place on the Ohio as shall most conduce the public service I have drawn a warrant on the Paymaster general for
