[To the Board of Treasury 30^th Sept. 1785 [undecipherable] tried [undecipherable]] In conformity to a resolution of Congress of directing the Commissioner to report the nature and extent of the services of the Invalid Agent to the Invalid regiment the Commissioner has had [occasion] to [undecipherable] upon the following stating: That the pay & subsistence being continued to the agent to the [undecipherable] of November 1783, the Commissioner is of opinion that it ought to be considered as a full satisfaction to that time attho, the duty of the appointment had been before surrended. That from the fourth of November 1783 to the first of June 1784, the Agent was employed in settling & adjusting the accounts of the regiment, and that [undecipherable] was also employed for the same time, for the same purpose, he being the paymaster of the regiment at the time of its discharge, and continued from his peculiar knowledge of the regimental accounts [which were indebted: undecipherable] in consequence of the same general orders which directed the agents to be [undecipherable]— That for the term above mentioned the said Agent has drawn from the United States thirty two Dollars & months and the [undecipherable] Paymaster eight Dollars & months as subsistence. That the time it has taken for the distribution of the certificates of the regiment, [depends chiefly on] the evidence of the Agent, who avers that he was wholly employed in that business from June 1 1784 to the 15^th of October following and partially afterwards to the time of the settlement of his accounts and that [undecipherable] Null was employed in the same manner for that time delivering the certificates to that part of the regiment which belonged to the Eastern States [undecipherable] means the business was completed in half the time it would otherwise have taken. The evidence may be corroborated by the consideration that certificates to the amount, 118,000 [undecipherable: more] Dolls have been delivered by them, to inhabitants of every [undecipherable] of the Union. [The Agent protests that: undecipherable] That [undecipherable] it has been [undecipherable] days [undecipherable] coming to this place and in the settlement of his accounts which has been finally done, and executed to your commissioner in a faithful proper manner for his service. That the above mentioned Agent & Paymaster have been informed of their Honor that they have derived no benefit from their agency, but look the United States alone for payment of their services — except that In [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] thinks it proper to mention that the necessity of procuring some [undecipherable] victuals for his family, when every resource from the public was stopped, he had charged those persons who had purchased from the officers & soldiers their rights for very trifling considerations, a commission of two & a half per cent [undecipherable] which [undecipherable] amounted to 136 Dolls One more. He again submits it to the consideration of [undecipherable] whether he is not entitled to some [undecipherable: consideration] on account of the long time he has attended to the service of the public without [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] which must elapse before where even [undecipherable] the above commission [undecipherable]
