New York September 8 1785 Dear Sir M^r Stephens by whom I was favored with yours of the [undecipherable] ult^o has received from me your Papers & Vouchers, [undecipherable] accompanied your accounts since your commencement in Office — which he has delivered to M^r M^cLigue with whom the settlement must be made. — M^r M^cLigue is inclined a little disagreeable in his manner, but I believe that tho in the result you will be [strikethrough: dis]satisfied with the [his] settlements — You may and depend on my friendship in suggesting to him from time to time every thing that will give the business an agreeable complexion, and that I shall not be wanting in my endeavors to procure the balance which shall appear to be due to you — I am with esteem D^r Sir your Ob^t Ser^t.
