I beg leave to observe to you that the Auditors on settlement of any account with an Officer always gave him a discharge specifying all sums of money accounted for and of whom received, therefore if Mr Thompson had made the settlement mentioned by him he would have received a similar discharge of the foregoing from Mr Johnston —

There is a James Franey of Frayne, a Sergt of the 1st Regt of Cap Hamilton's b. till July 1778 later than which I have no rolls, he says he was discharged in 1779 and having rejoined the Army in 1780 is entitled to his depreciation. Now I must request the favor of you to let me know from the rolls what time he was mustered discharged in 1779.
