[Letter to M^r Reid dated July 19. 1785] N York, July 19. 1785 Dear Sir Having just received your letter of the 6^th Instant, and hearing that Strong will probably leave Philadelphia soon, I write to inform you that it will not [undecipherable] to please the Officers of S^o Carolina in a disagreable situation and therefore if many should not be able to settle by the first of August, I should suppose that you will be justified in enlarging extending the period of your settlements somewhat longer — The uncertainty of this conveyance occasions my not transmitting you the balance you have requested and the sum due from me to M^r Watson — if a vessel sails from here early enough to meet you before you sail I shall send it, otherwise you may perhaps have an opportunity to draw on me[undecipherable] at this place.
