The holders of the undermentioned Certificates issued by Mr Pierce apprehending them to be altered have applied to me to be made certain. I have therefore to ask the favor of you to inform me as early as convenient what viem each of them was originally issued for —
No 30,929 Wt York March 1. 1784 to Edward Prince purporting to be for Three hundred & fifty dollars on Interest from January 1. 1783.
No 31.88 Wt York Decm 1. 1784 to George Greenwold purporting to be for Five hundred & six dol. 90 on Interest from 1 January 1783.
No 2682 Wt York Dec. 1. 1784 to William Scott purporting to be for Nine hundred dollars on Interest from January 1. 1784.
By furnishing seperate authentic Certificates of what each (if altered) was given for you may enable the present possessor to detect and convict the detestable perpetrators of a very extensive & pernicious fraud —
I return you thanks for the information contained in your Letter of 24th May dated at Philadelphia, and beg to know whether your Office is to continue at that City or is to be removed to New York, and when, as I am now uncertain, and hope you will be so good as to permit me to make enquiry concerning any other dubious Certificate, of requisite in future, and of the postage of
