Office of Secretary of Congress
June 2, 1785
Sir,
I have the honor of transmitting to your Excellency an Act of the United States in Congress assembled for the Relief of the Officers, Soldiers and Seamen who have been disabled in the Service of the United States — during the late war. —
As the condition of many of those unfortunate [strikethrough: men] who have a claim, not merely on the humanity but on the gratitude and justice of their Country — demands immediate attention; I have the firmest confidence that the State of New hampshire will take the earliest opportunity of making the provision recommended in the enclosed Act.
With the greatest respect
I have the honor to be
Your Excellency's
Most obedient &
Most humble svt
His Excellency the
President of New hampshire
Cha Thomson—
