I received yours of the 3d Instant by Mr Mauow, also Eleven Men Come with him — and [strikethrough: brought] me a receipt for the Money they had received. — You will please to send me a Copy of McCon tracking agreements, as I believe some of them will not perform the Proffer — and if you have not agreed to hire them for a Certain Time, I should think it best to Discharge them — but, should that be the Case, we must make the Most of them. — Should you engage any more you must not Promise buildings for their Families, as they Cannot be Supplied —
I have never received any Letter from you To Contract for the Border Coke — the Last I had on that Subject was dated the 8th March 85, when you received the Estimate in Philadelphia —
