[Letter from M.r Pierce dated Savannah the 9.^th Ins.^t which informs me he shall sail from that place by the first Vessel to Charleston & from there to this City.] M.r Pierce has given orders to prepare for the removal of the Office by the time he returns. I therefore request you will procure a place for the same, and please to cast your eye round and inform me if there is a possibility to get a House for myself. As I cannot afford a heavy Rent would not wish a large one. Capt Strong is expected every hour, if M.r Pierce comes with him we shall be with you shortly, but I rather expect he will come in Alibore — Inclosed is a few lines from some of your Friends I believe it is from M.r Williams who called yesterday he is getting much better. I could have wished you had taken the receipts on Seperate pieces of paper as those vouchers must be filed & Entered Seperately, if it was not too much trouble, I wish you would have them done all over again in the manner I mention. I imagine M.r Pierce will be with you soon, please inform as soon as he arrives, & what time you think you may be here with the Office, as I have a very good room that will answer the purpose in my own house which you will please inform M.r Pierce of. M.r Hodgdon informs me he can get you a very good house for about £80 or £100 p.^r Year, he will be in Philadelphia in a day or two, & he will inform you of its situation &c — since my arrival here I have had a good deal to do, I have rec.^d and paid away about twelve thousand dollars for pay of the Old & new Troops. May 1785 Dear Sir Agreeably to your request of the 26.^th Instant (which reached me on saturday evening) I have enclosed you duplicate receipts of the Gentlemen of the Office for their salaries, those of M.r De Witt & M.r Owen I presume may answer. You may be assured you shall have early intelligence of M.r Pierce's arrival which I flatter myself will be on Sunday next. unless the Room you have is very large it will not be sufficient for the Office.
