Dear Sir
Philadelphia 10. Augt 93.
By a Letter from Mr White of the 8 Instant, I find you want some information relative to the Officer of Moylan's Regt who received the Certificates of depreciation — I mentioned the matter to Mr Nicholson Comptroller genl of this State, he informs me that the whole of the regiment were received as part of the Quota of the State, settled by him individually for their depreciation to the 1st of August 1780, for which period their accounts were settled by me to the time of their several discharges —
This State & Maryland have been much imposed on by Numbers of the German Regiment who have received settlements in each state, and I wish for the same has happened in Virginia. In order to through light on this subject I wish you to send if possible a list of all the Officers & Soldiers of the Regiments you mention in yours, of the 28 April who have had settlements in your State, that I may compare them with the settlement made by Mr Nicholson & myself — Capt Pike the Agent of Moylan's Regt did not make any distinction between those men of the Virginia State from any other, and the musters, being silent on that head, the Certificates were all given to Major Bowen & Capt Beatty Agents for this line and endorsed by them as Pennsylvanians — Major Bowen is now settling his Accounts with the State — And — Dunscomb Esqr
