The unfortunate has always claimed some attention from me, more especially if the person has served his country with fidelity [line flourish] This address arises from the application of one Joseph Jones belonging to the 2.d New York regiment, for the pay due him for his services while in the army, he informs me that he was Legally discharged, which I suppose to be the case as I find he is included in the amounts [line flourish] and certificates have been issued to you for him _ The poor fellow has long been afflicted with sickness and is now in a distressed situation and unable to travel to New York [line flourish]

I have therefore to request you will be so obliging, and send such Certificates as may be in your hands for the said Jones to me for which you will have the prayers of the poor creature and my thanks. his receipt shall be careful to [undecipherable] your name and transmit to you the first safe conveyance - Let me hear from you as soon as possible ___ I am with due Respect your very [undecipherable] [signed] [undecipherable] J.
