Philadt. 12 April 1788
Sir
Agreeable to your request of the 1st Instt. I have compared the Return of the Maryland Prisoners with the Books of the Treasury & those of the Pay Office, and inclose you the Accounts of Monies advanced to sundry of them. The following Gentlemen have had settlements for pay & as Prisoners Viz. Col. Williams Lieut. Macey at the Treasury. Capt John Dean, Col. Marbury, Capt. Abram Sheppard. Leutt. Edwd. Duvall Shim. Wright
Walker, Miss Hatch, Doct. & Edward Prall with the late Auditor of the Army — perhaps those Gentlemen who were settled with by the Auditors may make the plea; that the Balance was paid them in a depreciated Currency, & wish for a Revision of their Accounts, this you will observe cannot be complied with for reasons obvious to every one.
Inclosed you will receive the Certificate of Dennis Cragun alias Cragmom for 1790 dollars. you will please to send me a receipt for it — Mr. Andebert has gone to N. York to procure a place for the Pay Office, you must be content with the Account formerly sent of Richard Waters as I am sensible no further explanation can be given. I flatter myself there will be no occasion for my removal, as I conceive the Resolve of Congress calling the several Officers does not include mine —— Copy of Col. Harrison. To accompanies this Accounts sent Col. Ramsey, Lt. Col. John Stuart, Lt. Col. Luke Marbury, Major Edwd. Ballard, Jas. Uhl. Lt. Col. Thos. Woolford, Major Tarlton Woodson, Major
