It will be necessary that I have Copies of the Vouchers by which the account current of that [undecipherable] of the [undecipherable] you have [undecipherable] as well the claims of the non commissioned, and privates before I [undecipherable] Certification — I observe you have only asked for subsistence, and not pay nor to the [undecipherable] those the former [undecipherable] and debts from that time to the discharge of the [undecipherable] System we [undecipherable] Farther done? It will be proper I know the same by a particular statement [thereof] that entries may be made on my Books. When the Accounts of the [undecipherable] as well [undecipherable] [undecipherable] after he became of the [undecipherable] of this State; I am [undecipherable] to me for the Balance due; I shall send you the Certificates that [undecipherable] the Signatures of M^r Pierce and myself; that you may fill them up and thereby prevent any imposition on the road; to enable you to do this, you will retain a Copy of this Report; and the respective Sums, and particular information corresponding with my record shall previously be sent you. As to Numbers, letter, and sums entered with the Several names. M^r Pierce left this the last of December previous to receiving yours this day. I wrote him at Newbern, North Carolina; in his absence to be forwarded to Charleston, at which place he must shortly, if already [undecipherable]; When he left me, he judged he should leave [undecipherable] in January. Any letter you may have; I beg you to enclose to me as I am desired to open all our public Service; when they may be forwarded on to him; but by the bye; I must beg you [to] attend at the Office, and recovering the same; and [undecipherable]. As to the situation of Brig. Gen^l Weedon's case, spoken of in mine herewith of the 8^th Instant. I find unless he was called into service, he has no claim or right to pay of Rations; but for particulars I refer you to a Resolve of Congress of the 18 Aug. 17[undecipherable] which at any rate deprives him of half; and in Consequence the Commutation for last three [undecipherable] of the [undecipherable] — In consequence of the Situation Gen^l Weedon the State have notified him to attend for a settlement of his Account, and to produce the proper Vouchers or [undecipherable] $1000 [undecipherable] on his Charges — When he attends for this purpose, I shall mention my opinions & hope upon return by the time I [undecipherable] my arguments if proper & demands a settlement also; he has reed. pay & commutation in full to Nov. 15. 1783.
