I flatter myself you have not allowed him commutation as Surgeon, as that has already been granted 28 granted to Dr. Peres who was the Surgeon and deranged as such in 1781. Mr. Smith appears to have acted as mate, you will please to inform me in your next. I have examined the Books of the late Auditors but cannot find that Capt. Gauther has made any settlement for the 15, 000 dollars charged to him I seem to recollect his lodging a list of names of the Officers to who he advanced Money to, but do not recollect Capt. Gaithess leasing any vouchers or receipts, and indeed it does not sum probable that he did for, in that case and Account current would have been made, filed with others of the same kind of Record. I will however look further and if the list can be found will send it. Some time since Mr. pierce wrote me for the Accounts of Capt. Vachel Howard at that time they were mislaid, I have since found them pray do you want them. Jn0. White Esq. Howell Junr.
