Dear Sir Annapolis 28 Jan^y 1785 I have been informed that an Agent was appointed to settle the Accounts of the late German Regiment, Commutation &c — who only (Aaron Burr as I have upon the United States, however I find it Incumbent to Represent that there should be an account in full of a Doctor Mc[undecipherable] Smith who served in that Corps, and was afterwards draughted into the line — This circumstance is communicated to prevent any mistake that possibly might occur, should an Agent on Behalf of said [undecipherable] apply at your Office — I find Cap^t Gaither of this time charged with 13,000 for the recruiting service, he says he delivered you (as late Auditor of the Army Accounts) a list of Officers who rec^ed to him in this a Money Receipt for 900 Dollars — If this account can be, and I wish you would be so good as to transmit it that it may be given to him and the proper Persons debited with the Money.
