Samuel Hodgdon Esqr S D Mr
Dear Sir Philada Octr 15. 1794 —
There is an order for you for near 3000 dollars of George Clenny Esq. Receiver for Rhode Island, granted me by the Secy for the use of my department. If you have no time to send and get a written answer, before you are returning hither, you can call them in at the Principl place. I have advised him that gives a draught for the amount you please, in order to be discounted for the whole. You will engage a suitable character to receive, and transmit it from time to time to me. I have this day drawn on Mr Nourse for 500 dollars on favour of Mr McIllvaine. That he can send before you leave Boston, he will deliver to you, or otherwise make the remittance as you think best agree in consulting together. Mr Morris has given me Letters of credit — The different vouchers for the arrearages due in my department — My family all well — Farewel J S Dill.
