[Copied] Phil.^a Sept^o 20. 1784 In Answer to you Application for the Allowances to be given you in Consequence of you late Husband, dying in the Service of the United States. I am of Opinion [strikethrough: to you are clearly intitled to the foregoing] to the [undecipherable] arising from the forming resolves of Congress made in favor of the Widows & Orphans [strikethrough: of Officers] who have died in their Service — [then follows as in the letter to M^r Colburn as far as the resolves on land] It will be only necessary that you procure such evidence of the service & death of your husband, as will satisfy [the] legislatures as to the facts, and then apply to them for the proper compensation — I suppose there was no monthly pay then due to him, and the promise [?] of Lands cannot extend to him — if any thing further other wise in my power can be rendered you, I shall do it with chearfulness M^rs Vergereau.
