[Copy] Philadelphia Sept. 16. 1784 Sir I have delayed an answer to your letter for some time in hopes of being able to satisfy you respecting the pay Rolls and Warrant for the pay of your detachment of Militia which you think was left with me — I know but after a careful inquiry I cannot find by the Auditors Books of Warrants, that any has been granted; and the business is of so long standing I do not recollect that the Rolls were left with me — M^r. Howell (who transacts my business here while I am about in the Southern States) has undertaken to make a search thro' all the papers of the office, and will communicate to you the result — to whom you will please to write on the business if necessary — I am Sir Your Obedient Serv^t JS?
