I received yours of 27th & 28th of August this day by Mr Maken
I wrote you on 4th of August by Mr Dunlap in Answer to yours
of the 5th — In which I have informed you fully of the Situation of
the powder; it will not be in my power to furnish you with
an Accurate return till the border is examined, after which
I shall make every exertion to forward it. You will see by my
Last letter what impediments is in the way of Compleating so
Necessary a buisness, and hope it will not be imputed to any
inattention or neglect of mine, as soon as I have Ascertained
the quantity of Damaged powder which is in the Magazeens at
Fort Clinton, I will Only Count the rest, as it will be too Late to
Rise it this season, agreeable to your Known Orders to the Com-
mandt all the powder that is taken Out each day if equal-
ized, before it is put in, which makes a great deal more trou-
ble than it would be Only to put it in the Same Casks again.
So that with what men I have I Cannot take out more than
fifty Barrells each day when fair weather. —
