[Endorsed: from Mr Stokley / Augt 1784]
[Administrative note: Entered — 1784 / (Asks whether Settled) / [undecipherable] settlements / To Capt Pierce M.G. / Commissioner of Settlement / asks [undecipherable] the settlement / Phila address the settlement]
beg to be informed by the person who delivers this whether you propose continuing in Philadelphia or not — I have an intention of coming up sometime soon and bringing my vounchers in order to have a settlement if you thinks you will continue there if not I shall decline it and endeavour to meet you when you come to [undecipherable: Trenton?].
I would also [undecipherable] to inform one if the mode of individual [undecipherable] limit has been or in all probability will be adopted as there are a number of Officers on the east side of [undecipherable: Susquehanna?] who would prefer going to Philadelphia to any other place provided a settlement could be [undecipherable: effected?] — your information on the above will much oblige
