[20^th Aug^t 1784 To Gen^l Nicolaf [undecipherable: agreed?] Inst —] War Office 20^th Aug^t 1784 Sir In a letter rec^d from M^r White Atto^r Gen^l for the Maryland line dated the 24 Ult^o he informs me that several Soldiers of the Maryland line drafted "into your Corps have received five months pay "from that State in the latter part of the year 1780, "and the Intendants office not having particularly "mark'd, to what Regiments the men had belong'd "no list has been made out, & consequently it is probable no credit was given in the Settlements of "their Accounts — As I [strikethrough: intend to] shall immediately forward him a list of all those who were transferr'd to the Corps from that line he will be enabled to have the Intendants payments, & be able to distinguish who h^d received the 5 M^os Pay. — I am to request that you will stop Issuing the Certificates to any Soldiers of that line until I receive an answer which Gen^l Nicola^s will not exceed a fortnight.
