War Office 20^th Aug^t 1784 Sir In a Letter rec^d from M^r White Affairs tion to the Maryland line dated the 21 Ult^o he informs me "that several Soldiers of the Maryland line drafted "into your Corps have received five months pay "from that State in the latter part of the year 1780 "and the Intendants office not having particularly "marked to what Regiments the men had belong'd "no list has been made out, & consequently it is "probable no credit was given in the Settlements of "their Accounts — As I intend to shall immediately forward him a list of all those who were transferred to the corps from that line he will be enabled to have it check'd by the Intendants payments & be able to distinguish who has received the 5 M^ths Pay. — I am to request that you will stop giving the Certificates to any Soldiers of that line until I receive an answer which [Gen^l Nicholals] will not exceed a fortnight — J P
